Photography was in its infancy when the Civil War erupted, and soldiers North and South eagerly embraced the new medium. Images of fighting men were created on glass, thin metal or paper. These photographs were sometimes hand-tinted by the photographer, using various hues to add color to soldiers’ faces, uniforms and weapons. [ more ]
