REGULAR BOYS
Oil on Paper 8 x 10" $200 Unidentified Drummer, Fifer, and Bugler, Co. H, 12th United States Infantry A young trio of Musicians, all members of Company H, 12th United States Infantry, pose at their battalion’s camp at Fort Hamilton, New York, probably in early 1863. By this time in the war, according to the original caption of the photograph on which this painting is based, these three had already “been in nine battles of the Rebellion.” Note the dented bugle cradled by the lad on the right. The 12th Infantry continued to fight throughout the Civil War, serving in some 26 different engagements before the struggle ended. The names of these three boys, and their fates, are lost to history |
